Mushroom Food Safari

There’s just a few places left on our popular Mushrooms in a Day foraging courses, with a couple of dates already fully booked. Our course is unique in combining a morning out in the forest foraging for edible wild mushrooms with a an inspiring mushroom cookery demonstration from award winning chef and food writer Madalene Bonvini-Hamel, followed by a gourmet three course mushroom lunch at the British Larder.

 The day is all about identifying, gathering and picking edible mushrooms and fungi. The foray takes place in the mixed woodland of Rendlesham Forest, not far from the Suffolk coast. 
This course focuses on identifying different types of edible wild mushrooms and fungi. We will look at the different habitats they grow in, their different shapes, spore prints, features and family groups. On our walk through the woods we will show you how to avoid common misidentification errors and you’ll leave the course feeling more confident about gathering, preserving and cooking with wild mushrooms.  

After the foray, we will go to the award-winning British Larder Suffolk for a mushroom and wild food cookery demonstration from chef and food writer Madalene Bonvini-Hamel. Then we will enjoy a foragers’ feast – based around the edible mushrooms, of course – but also the best local and seasonal produce.

In 2013 we’re also offering a half day Mushroom foraging course A Taste of the Wild. This is a morning foray with no lunch on Saturday 19 October in Thetford Forest.
