Catch and Cook

More than just a fish cookery course, the freshest fish you ever find will always be the one you catch yourself.  Join us for a day fishing for cod, bass and mackerel. After a late lunch, we'll learn from a chef how to prepare the fish you caught to cook at home and share some simple recipe ideas.

Seafood in a Day

Explore the River Ore with our skipper and we'll find lobster, crabs and other seafish. We'll visit Pinney's ancient oysterbeds and smokehouse and enjoy lunch at the family’s well-known fish restaurant Butley Orford Oysterage.

Wild Meat in a Day

Whether you are nervous of blood or keen to get skinning, Wild Meat in a Day will be a fun and hands-on day of, preparing, cooking and eating a variety of feathered and furred game.

Children's Food Safari

Sunday 3 October

This day will give children aged 6-12 the chance to make the connection between the food we eat and the farm it comes from. We'll spend the day at a small-holding, and meet the pigs and free-range chickens, geese and bees. We'll get hands-on making burgers and sausages. We'll also use local flour to make some bread to be cooked in a wood-fired oven and share a feast with the parents.

Evening Butchery Classes

Friday 8 October, Friday 12 November, Friday 28 January

New this autumn we're launching a range of evening hands-on butchery classes near Ipswich. The butchery classes are aimed at teaching you all about the meat, where it comes from, and also a range of basic butchery skills that you can put to use in your own kitchen. Our tutor is award-winning butcher, Gerard King, of the Suffolk Food Hall who will show you skills such as boning, rolling, stuffing and carving.

Wild Food in a Day is all about identifying, gathering and cooking wild food and of course in October our interest is mushrooms. This is a great introduction to mushroom foraging for serious foodies; we will focus on what is good for the pot!

Bring your wellies to visit Blythburgh Free Range Pork, one of only three free range pork farms in the UK. There'll be a pork butchery class and hands-on fun making your own sausage recipes with an award-winning butcher before a relaxed pork lunch.

Spend the day with dairy farmers and artisan cheese makers, Jason & Katharine Salisbury. Meet their pedigree Guernsey cows, watch them being milked and spend the afternoon making your own soft cheese.

Beer Safari

 Please call for dates

Beer Safari will take you on a journey to discover what goes
into great beer.  With an expert guide we'll visit an East Anglian hop farm, barley farm and two breweries to find out about the all-important ingredients, including different hops, malts available, and recipe formulation.

Take a behind the scenes tour of Pinney’s who’ve been smoking fish at Orford since the 1950s. We’ll enjoy lunch at the family’s well-known fish restaurant Butley Orford Oysterage
