Beer Safari

Beer Safari will take you on a journey to discover what goes
into great beer.  With an expert guide we'll visit an East Anglian hop farm, barley farm and two breweries to find out about the all-important ingredients, including different hops, malts available, and recipe formulation.

Children's Food Safari

Sunday 11 April, Saturday 24 July, Sunday 3 October

This day will give children aged 6-12 the chance to make the connection between the food we eat and the farm it comes from. We'll spend the day at an organic farm near Southwold, and meet the rare-breed sheep, cattle, pigs and free-range chickens. We'll get hands-on making burgers and sausages. We'll also use local vegetables, salad and flour to make some bread to be cooked in a wood-fired oven and share a feast with the parents.

Catch and Cook

Saturday 10 April, Saturday 31 July

More than just a fish cookery course, the freshest fish you ever find will always be the one you catch yourself.  Join us for a day fishing for cod, bass and mackerel. After lunch, we'll head into the kitchen to learn from a chef how to prepare the fish you caught to cook at home and share some simple recipe ideas.

Cheese in a Day

Spend the day with dairy farmers and artisan cheese makers, Jason & Katharine Salisbury. Meet their pedigree Guernsey cows, watch them being milked and spend the afternoon making your own soft cheese.

Seafood in a Day

Explore the River Ore with our skipper and we'll find lobster, crabs and other seafish. We'll visit Pinney's ancient oysterbeds and smokehouse and enjoy lunch at the family’s well-known fish restaurant Butley Orford Oysterage.

An introduction to foraging for wild foods in woodlands, on the coast and in a domestic garden. In autumn we'll find mushrooms, in summer samphire. We'll learn how to cook and eat wild foods and enjoy a wild food feast.

Free Range Pig in a Day

Saturday 8 May

Bring your wellies for a walk around the famous Blythburgh Pigs before returning to The Anchor for a butchery demonstration and to make your own Suffolk sausages and charcuterie.
