PRESS RELEASE – AUGUST 2009

Mushroom, Beer & Cheese Safaris - Food Safari adds new events to its programme of gastronomic days out in Suffolk

Food Safari, the new Suffolk-based business, which runs gourmet food tours on the Suffolk coast, has added a number of new events to its repertoire this autumn. Specialising in ‘Field to Fork’ days, Food Safari offers unique experiences that combine farm walks, wild food forays, or fishing trips with butchery and cookery workshops culminating with fantastic feasts featuring the fruits of the day.

In addition to Seafood in a Day; Wild Meat in a Day (game); Wild Food in a Day (hedgerows and mushrooms); and Free Range Pig in a Day, Food Safari has now introduced Cheese in a Day with award-winning Suffolk Farmhouse Cheese, Bread in a Day and Beer Safari in association with internationally respected cellarman and beer writer, Mark Dorber of Beer Academy and The Anchor at Walberswick (formerly The White Horse, Parsons Green, London).
On Beer Safari attendees will explore all the basic ingredients of beer and visit a Suffolk hop farm, a malting barley farm, and take a behind-the-scenes tour of one or two of the East Anglia’s best breweries. On returning to The Anchor guests will enjoy a gourmet dinner and will be challenged to explore new ways to match beer and food. Have you ever considered that a strong traditional British ale is a better partner for Stilton cheese than port; or that with a dark chocolate pudding you can’t beat a Belgian cherry beer?

Founder Polly Robinson, says: “We’ve had really positive feedback about our first events this spring. People have all enjoyed trying something new whether that’s making sausages, butchering venison or picking and tasting samphire or sea purslane. We hope that by expanding the range of events we offer we will give people more opportunities to try a new food or drink experience and to make new connections with the people and places behind their food.”
Forthcoming Food Safari days include:
