Pefect Foodie Gifts
PRESS RELEASE
On a Food Safari – the perfect foodie gift this Christmas
Austust 2009
Food Safari, the Suffolk food experiences business, is offering the ideal gift for food and drink fanatics this Christmas. Specialising in ‘Field to Fork’ days, Food Safari offers unique experiences that combine farm walks, wild food forays, or fishing trips with butchery and cookery workshops and culminating with fantastic feasts featuring the fruits of the day. If you are looking for an unusual and memorable Christmas present for foodies, look no further.
You might take a relaxed fishing trip on the River Ore in search of lobsters, crabs and other seafood before taking a tour of a traditional smokehouse and oysterbeds at 50-year old Pinney’s of Orford. Or you could join a wild food foray in search of samphire and sea purslane on a private estate on the banks of the beautiful River Blyth near Southwold. Other events include game butchery, sausage and charcuterie making, a tour of an award-winning farm and dairy, Suffolk Farmhouse Cheese or Beer Safari, a Suffolk beer tour.
Most Food Safaris are based at The Anchor at Walberswick where chef proprietor, Sophie Dorber, treats guests to an imaginative cookery demonstration and creates a gastronomic feast featuring the fruits of the day, whether that’s game, wild food or seafood. Mark Dorber, the other half of The Anchor team, and an internationally respected beer writer and cellarman will present a hand-picked selection of beer and wine to complement each course. Attendees leave the day with some new skills to try in the kitchen at home, a handful of recipes and usually some of the day’s produce; as well as a deeper understanding of the food we eat and a greater connection to the people who make it and the landscape it comes from.
Founder Polly Robinson, says: “We’ve had really positive feedback about our first events this spring. Everyone has enjoyed trying something new whether that’s learning how to make sausages, how to prepare venison or picking and tasting samphire or sea purslane. People agree that the Food Safari experience of seeing the food on the farm or in the wild before cooking and eating it is truly unique.”
Gift vouchers are available for all Food Safari events, which start at £125 per person or £200 per couple.
