Food Safari - launches 2009 programme with 'Wild Meat in a Day' - a hands-on game experience
January 15, 2009
Food Safari, the new food and drink events business, which launched last year at The Aldeburgh Food and Drink Festival, has announced its first event of 2009. Food Safari will give people the chance to get behind the scenes of some of the East Anglia’s best loved food and drink producers and take part in fun hands-on workshops; preparing and cooking game, baking bread, making sausages or catching and cooking local seafood.
The first event for 2009 will be a hands-on day of preparing cooking and eating a variety of feathered and furred game on Sunday March 29th, at The Anchor, Walberswick, Suffolk. Ray Kent of The Wild Meat Company, one of Rick Stein’s Food Heroes, will give participants the confidence to prepare game at home as well as sharing a wealth of experience about local game. While The Anchor’s Head Chef will share his favourite game recipes and pass on tips, ideas and advice for cooking game at home. The day will include a three-course game lunch and the opportunity to sample a hand-picked selection of beer and wine to complement game dishes.
Tim Robinson, one of Food Safari’s founders said this of a morning spent with The Wild Meat Company:
‘"Having never tackled a game bird in my life I was slightly daunted by the idea of preparing one from scratch but under Ray’s expert tuition I quickly got stuck in. Less than two hours from starting I was able to stuff a boned duck (with some pretty sensational orange, thyme and sausage-meat stuffing) that wouldn't disgrace even the swankiest table.”
Food Safari was inspired by the abundance of inspiring artistan food producers and farmers, for which Suffolk has been widely acclaimed and will offer a unique and inspiring combination of walks and talks from producers with cookery demonstrations and delicious feasts. Attendees will get to see behind the scenes of many well known local producers, including Emmett’s of Peasenhall, Pinney’s of Orford, Sutton Hoo Chickens and Shawgate Vineyard.
